Dear Parent/Carer,

Celebration of Achievement 2021

Unfortunately, due to the Covid pandemic we have been unable to have our usual Celebration of Achievement Evening again this year. This is a wonderful event for the school and we are all disappointed that we could not celebrate our student’s successes in the usual way.  We did however want to make sure that our students’ achievements in such difficult circumstances are acknowledged and so we celebrated our students’ success in assemblies this week with the winning students in Years 8-11 being presented with certificates and a Love2Shop voucher.

It is always a delight to be able to recognise those students who have gone above and beyond; there is too much coverage in the media of the negative side of young people in today’s society. We believe that we have a duty to recognise the brilliant achievements of our younger generations and to make them realise that their efforts do make a difference so that they are ready to make a positive impact on the world when they leave us. It has been a very tough couple of years for our young people missing out on so much time in school, both from a learning and social aspect.

Please see at the end of this newsletter a list of all of this year’s winners - well done for all of your hard work last year!

Proud Event

We were delighted to hold our second Proud event of the year yesterday, this time for both Year 7 and Year 8 students. The school library was packed with students keen to show off their best piece of work this half term and it was great to see so many students there.

Covid Measures

In light of the large increase in the number of children and young people testing positive for Covid-19 in North Tyneside, and following advice from Wendy Burke, (Director of Public Health) and Diane Buckle (Assistant Director of Education) we have reviewed our Covid risk assessment and are satisfied with the safety measures we have in place in school. Teachers have been asked to make sure that all rooms are well ventilated with windows and doors open and we continue to have enhanced cleaning and sanitiser in all rooms.

As an extra precaution after half term, we are strongly encouraging all staff and students to wear face coverings in communal areas of the school.  This week students have been given another batch of home test kits and we urge you to continue to undertake lateral flow testing twice a week. Testing at home before students return to school after half-term will be key to starting back in the best way possible.

On Monday 1st November students aged between 12 and 15 that we have received consent for will receive their first Covid vaccination in school. If you have not managed to return your consent form in time, the Health Secretary has now announced a change to the National Booking Service so that vaccinations for 12-15-year olds can be booked online or via 119.
