The Pupil Premium is a funding stream allocated to schools on the basis of the number of pupils they have who are known to have been eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) in the last six years; Looked after Children; and Service Children.
The government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is received by the school in addition to other funding, is the best way to address some of the inequalities in the educational results achieved by different groups of pupils.
The funding is used by schools to tackle disadvantage and to help the students who most need the benefits of some additional resource to help them make the best of the opportunities available to them.
